Glossybox – February 2016

Back in September last year I subscribed to six months of Glossybox beauty boxes.  This edition is my final box, so I was filled with mixed emotions when opening it.  I wanted it to be amazing, because it was my last, but I also kind of wanted it to be rubbish.  Because if I loved it then I would feel sad that I couldn’t continue the subscription.

The February Glossybox is another special box, the theme is ‘Beauty Soulmates’, because of Valentine’s day.  Now, I am not going to go off on one about Valentine’s day, and the way it brings out the Grinch in me, because that is best saved for another time.  Let’s just dive straight in to the contents of February’s box.

Nicka K New York 24hr Waterproof Eyeliner – Full Size – £3.99.  This brown eyeliner is of the twist up variety, and comes complete with a little smudger on one end.  It is waterproof, which can be a plus and a minus in my experience.  I have to say, I’m not overly excited by it; eyeliners are not something that I use regularly (other than black on my upper waterline).  Maybe it is time for me to experiment with a liner, and finally master a straight line….

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Slanted Tweezers – Full Size – £8.  I have been loyal to good old Tweezerman tweezers for as long as I can remember, they are perfect for even the finest eyebrow hair.  These pretty tweezers will be a useful backup for when mine go missing though, which happens at least once a week (bl**dy kids).  I haven’t had much experience with The Vintage Cosmetic Company, but when looking for a link for these tweezers I had a little look around.  If you like reasonably priced, pretty, vintage-looking cosmetic accessories and tools, then this is the website for you.

MUA Power Pout Glaze Low Voltage Gloss – Full Size – £3.50.  This shiny sheer lip colour is a gorgeous dusky pink.  This month there was a choice of six shades, and subscribers were given the chance in December to select one.  Despite picking the colour, I’m not sure how I will get on with this lip gloss; it is very sticky and the applicator is just plain annoying.  We will see though.

NAOBAY Protective Hair Mask Volume Conditioner – Full Size – £10.64.  Of the six boxes that I’ve had, this is the second that has contained a deep conditioning treatment.  Unfortunately, I just can’t get excited about conditioners.  I honestly have never found one that actually lives up to its claims, so I will reserve judgement until I have tried this.  I am prepared to be surprised though, and I will let you know if I have to eat my words.

Wilkinson Sword Intuition Razor – Full Size – £6.99.  A razor.  I suppose this makes sense, with the theme being Valentine’s Day related.  If you’re getting ready for a hot date, you do want to shave your legs, right? A razor is very useful, I suppose, but is it really something that should be featured in a beauty subscription box? I think not, but maybe that’s just me.

I really tried to be positive with this blog post.  Honestly, I really did.  Sadly, the contents are simply not exciting to me.  I think Glossybox could have done so much more with the theme of soulmates.  The products could have been those that worked together perhaps? Eyeshadow and eyeliner in complimentary colours; even a lip liner and lipstick would have been more appropriate.  Perhaps pampering treats; a face mask, body scrub and nail polish?

Am I the only one that is disappointed with this month’s box? I would be interested to know what others think, so please let me know! Tweet me, or maybe comment below.
